The bikes were ready, we even finally had a set of wet weather tires on rims, should the weather be bad, the week up to the race we checked the weather by the hour - it didn't look too good....
We set off for the 5 hour journey on Thursday, the pumpkin was loaded up and towing the combi-camp, all went well and we arrived at the circuit on Thursday evening - Nearly all the other teams and racers were there and practice was in full swing despite the big black clouds over head.
We set up the combi-camp in a few minuets and unloaded the bikes, fuelled them up, and paid up for a practice that evening just to get a feel for the track. Travis came in after a few laps saying that he thought the track was brilliant !
Then the clouds broke and rain began to fall, we dashed the bikes in, removed the leathers and decided to call it enough, headed up to the local area to buy pizza.
We had the rain sending us to sleep as it tapped away at the canvas over head, the next morning we woke to a wet track, we decided to shoot into town and go swimming for the morning and hoped that it would al dry out while we were away,
and it did exactly that, we returned on friday afternoon to a dry track, so we shot in to the practice slots and got a few more laps in, during the practice we both had some spills, but nothing too bad, just a few jobs to keep dad busy with repairs.
First qualifying went really well, then a few crashes for Travis on the end of straight right hander, into the run off and sand, pushing too hard ! all was not lost though as despite this Travis still took the pole and best time.
Lewis keeping it steady
Travis flyingLewis napping just minutes before the first race
and so Saturday afternoon it was time for race 1
William got off to a blistering start, Travis followed in 2nd Slowly reeling him in
The gap down the long straight
Through the twisties
closing him down
Lap 4
Lap 5
Then the battle, it was epic, Travis overtaking, then William fighting back and so forth
Then into the lead and away - and taking the flag !
It was such a great little race, really nice battles with some great overtaking moves, the weather was perfect and everyone had a good day -Travis also did his best time of the weekend during this race!
Lewis came in last place, but had a real good ride with no drama - he can go much quicker, were just waiting to find out when...
Nice to hear this 4 stroke mini moto mixing it up
Lewis coming into the pits Lewis receiving his medal
And the winners
After that it was time to chill and watch the others
super moto
Our camp - flying the union
Dad the mechanic taking a break
Then we headed into Kalmar to grab a bite and see some sights
Sunday was a full on race day, Junior started early with a 15 min practice and race 2 at 10.05 - in between we watched the other mini-moto races, cheered them on and witnessed the super moto racing, all very cool to see up close
Backing it in !
So then the final race of the weekend, Dad was very nervous!
The race started a lot like the first race, William blasted away from the start, followed by Travis and then the rest of the pack, bringing up the rear was Lewis.
Travis came up close to William by the end of lap 2 and was on his tail for a couple of laps, every time the straight came, William blasted away, then on about lap 5 travis came very close in the twisty section, ran in a little hot and they both touched and came down, they were both a good 10 seconds clear of 3rd place, luckily both riders and machines were unscathed, soon they were both up and racing away again, but Travis got away quicker and now in first place, he raced the last laps so well, crossing the line and taking the win and all with a really twisted left bar - he straight away said sorry to William for the knock. Lewis came in 8th again, we parked the bikes in the parc ferme and headed back to the pumpkin to watch the next races and congratulate Travis on the double.
This was at the checkered flag of race 2 on Sunday
