2020
So during 2019 we had started to talk about the next bike to race....
Mini motos where becoming too small for the boys as they sprouted up, already they had size 43 shoes and they had fast grown out of their leathers (we sent them back to the uk where Hideout adjusted them so we could get another years worth of riding from them)
We knew one thing, we wanted bikes that looked like mini race bikes, not so interested in riding the fiddy or motocross style bikes on track - although fast these were just not our cup of tea and there didn't seem to be many riding the race style of bike in the past few years in minigp classes here in Sweden.
So this left us with only a few options.....
Buy the Ohvale mini gp bike ? - see picture below.
Well the pros
These look great, these little bikes seem well designed and made and have a large following that seemed to be picking up pace in europe. The frame and design is italian and I believe the engine is a chinese made unit. Google and find out more for your self.
The Cons
Well it was price really for us - We needed two bikes, which meant we would need around 120,000 sek
They cost about 60,000 each ! and did not seem to fit in the rule book here in sweden when it came to junior or stock categories ...
So what else was out there ?
second hand Honda NSF 100cc - great bikes, but new they cost too much and second hand there just not around so much - We didn't want two different bikes either.
First of all it looked great, basically it looked the same as a Honda NSF 100, but it was a Chinese made bike rather then Japanese. The price was other factor to get me interested.....
Brand new 28500 SEK each !
So I searched out everything I could about the brand and bikes and I soon found through some blogs from Australia that the first batch of bikes were good but had some issues that people mentioned, such as swarf in the carbs and a petrol tank that seemed to cause issues with the carb, delaminating maybe ? but other then a these repeated issues most of the comments where very good, people seemed to enjoy the bikes on track. I then contacted Kayo and soon I was talking to Kareem about the new batch of bikes that were being produced, he sent me more details and soon I was discussing how I could become a dealer for the brand here in Sweden - Initially I had a lot to learn about import, although I have a registered company here in Sweden and have worked with some import and export with my cookbooks, this was a little different, but i took the plunge and soon I was expecting delivery of an initial 5 bikes and spares - these arrived on the 26th may 2020
So what else happened while we waited for those bikes to ship from the other side of the world …
Well - I cocked up when reading the svemo rule book regarding what engine types can be included to race in the stock mini gp class....Some how the horizontal or vertical words meant something else to me then they did to a Swede, So I had brought these new kayos thinking they could easily drop right in to the stock class - however i was wrong - so I had to write to svemo and explain the situation - luckily they are great people and said we could trial the bikes in the class that year and look at adjusting the wording on engine configuration in the future - They did and in the end it all worked out very nicely - Now there is no problem and the Kayo MR150 can be raced in both Stock and senior classes in Sweden.

How about a little thing called Covid 19 ! - The whole world went batsoup crazy
| Covid in Sweden soon meant that the schools went to distance learning - Here me and Sanna made a schedule which included some practical learning for boys We also started to look at buying a motorhome and after a few months of searching for the right camper we found it - Nelly the Elephant - its a Rimor - has 6 belts and beds for 6 plus a huge garage and a tow bar We brought it from Linköping - camping at race meets would never be the same again. Påsk - Easter in Sweden - cold but dry - time to get the old CBR out of hibernation |
